Do you have goals within your self-care routine?
As a business owner, I have learned a lot over the past year. It is so easy to allow your business to take over your life -- every second you are thinking about your business - your goals both short term and long term, what adjustments can be made, managing your team, etc.
It may seem like an odd question to ask, but if you really sit down and think about it — what is self-care without intention?
The easy part is prioritizing within the business but the difficult part is setting life priorities to leave time for meaningful self-care, and not allowing your business to take over your life. Of course, as you are building a business it will take up the majority of your time and it takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears - as it should! However, it is so important to find a balance so you are able to be your best self.
You can’t truly care for your needs if you are going through your routine without believing or knowing how it’s going to benefit you.
For instance, I love being active. So one of my goals within my self-care is to take time out of my morning to get a good workout in! At least twice a week I wake up early to work out with my trainer before the workday gets started. I make sure to implement time in my schedule to stay active because it benefits me in so many ways. Not only has it helped my pregnancy, but it gives me time to work out my stress, keep my mind motivated, and acts as a reset for my emotions.
Or another example, sometimes it’s hard for me to wind down at night. So I make sure to be very intentional with my skincare routine and take my time doing it. I look forward to this time of night (and morning) knowing this practice will not only benefit me mentally, but also physically - - bringing me peace, amity, and positive intentions.
I even love to read, and I look forward to blocking out time during the week to sit down with a good book - when I can. Incorporating time to read each day whether it's in the morning, on break, or at night, benefits you and your health more than you might think. Reading on the regular reduces stress, increases your brain connectivity, vocabulary, comprehension, and lowers your heart rate. It may sound silly, but the more intention you put into your self care, the easier it is to meet your goals.
My husband and I are constantly on the go -- we spend the majority of our weekends out of town - whether that is the ranch, coast, traveling, friend's places, we truly don't stop. So I work on the go; I've been able to find a good balance (well... I'm not sure if it's good but it works for me!) of working on the go. I work extremely hard during the week almost every night - which includes me taking my computer to bed and wrapping up emails etc. after dinner. But, I make sure to still implement and practice intentional self-care to keep this balance. Then, on the weekends (which sometimes start on Thursday), I am able to enjoy myself while sneaking a check-in on my team and sorting emails at the end of the night.
This system has worked for us, and as our team has grown, an immense amount of pressure has been taken off of me! Those all-nighters have faded away and I am in a peaceful place balancing my life and my business. It's all about prioritizing the things that are most important to you while being intentional and understanding the benefits of self-care.
I hope sharing my self-care practices, goals, and intentions inspired or helped you in some way. I strive to be the best version of myself for my friends & family, clients, employees, and of course soon to be baby Sawyer. There is never a bad time to start practicing more self-care, and remember, what is self-care without intention?
