Most people may not think of Shopify when asked about a service based business. In reality, people may not even realize how some of the largest sites they frequent are housed on Shopify. I'm here today to talk about why Shopify works for everyone - product or service based. While service based businesses don't have tangible products, they in theory are still selling a service or set of skills to customers in a similar way.
Shopify was initially created for product based businesses and has become the "go to" platform for e-commerce sites. Whether or not you know it you have most likely been on the consumer end of a Shopify website. Here are a few big companies that use Shopify:
- Kraft Heinz
- KKW Beauty
- Kylie Cosmetics
- Whole Foods
Shopify is one of the most profitable and largest e-commerce companies in the world with a market cap of $141.3 billion. But like I said it doesn't stop there, Shopify works just as a platform as well for service based businesses as it does product. The services that you offer essentially are products, just not in a tangible sense. Instead of selling physical products, you are selling a service or set of skills to customers in a similar way.
One of the biggest misconceptions of Shopify is that it only serves "e-commerce businesses." This is false, while the platform was built for product based businesses the platform works extremely well for service based businesses. Here are some reasons why:
- You have the ability to disable purchases but also promote your services
- You have the ability to develop unique services pages
- Shopify allows you embed necessary apps to create a unique and functional site (Example: our website is linked to our HoneyBook account, scheduling app (Calendly), and Flo Desk (email marketing platform))
- Once the site is built it's extremely user friendly
Our website is a great example of a service based business successfully housed on Shopify. Changes and updates are made easy with such a user friendly platform, and it's nice having the ability to sell (or not sell) products at any point. We specialize in Shopify sites and have the ability to custom code just about anything you'd want for your business, product or service based.
